Beta Program Waiver

Waiver version 2.0 · Last updated 2026-05-15

Cubs is currently in invitation-only beta. Before joining, every parent acknowledges this Beta Program Waiver in the onboarding flow. The public version below mirrors the four checkboxes you accept during onboarding and adds the supporting detail an enterprise- or compliance-minded parent might want before clicking through.

The signed record lives in the beta_waivers table and carries waiver version, full name, signing IP, and user-agent. You can request a copy of your signed record at any time from support@cubsfamily.app.

1. What "beta" means at Cubs

Cubs is a complete product, not a tech demo — but it is being shipped to a growing community of design partners while still under active development. As a beta participant you accept that:

  • Features may change, regress, or be removed without prior notice.
  • Bugs, downtime, latency spikes, and AI output errors will happen more often than they will in our general-availability product.
  • Some features are explicitly labeled "preview" — these are early-stage and may break.
  • The mobile and desktop apps will be updated frequently.
  • Your feedback through the in-app feedback button, surveys, or interviews helps us decide what ships next.

This does not mean the safety posture is weaker. The AI Harness Standard, COPPA / GDPR-K controls, and parent oversight tooling are fully in effect during beta — see the AI Harness Standard.

2. The four acknowledgments

During onboarding you accept four statements, repeated here verbatim:

  1. I understand this software is in beta and may contain bugs or incomplete features. I agree to provide feedback to help improve the platform.
  2. I have read and acknowledge the Privacy Policy.
  3. I have read and accept the Terms of Service.
  4. I understand my family's data is used only to operate Cubs for my family. It is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for marketing.

A typed digital signature (your full legal name) and the timestamp are appended to the record. The four checkboxes are independent; we do not pre-tick any of them, and we will not bundle them into a single "accept all".

3. Heightened no-warranty posture for beta

Beta features are provided strictly "as is", with no warranty of any kind. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to keep the service operating, but we make no promise of uptime, accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose during the beta. The carve-outs you cannot waive in the Terms of Service §11 still apply (non-excludable consumer rights, gross negligence, willful misconduct, personal injury).

4. Feedback license

If you submit ideas, bug reports, screenshots, suggestions, or other feedback about the Service, you grant Cubs a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use that feedback to improve the Service, without any obligation of attribution or compensation to you. This license is scoped narrowly to feedback about the product; it does not capture any of your content (which you own — see Terms §6) and explicitly does not capture any child-submitted content. We will not publicly attribute a feedback comment to a named child.

5. Prerelease confidentiality (light-touch)

Some beta features carry a clear "preview" chip or are only visible behind an invitation code. For those features we ask that you do not publicly share screenshots, screen recordings, or detailed write-ups for 30 days after first seeing them, so we can finish them properly. After 30 days the soft hold expires automatically. This is a good-faith request, not a court-enforceable NDA; it does not restrict you from speaking with your family, with privacy or child-safety advocates, or with any government authority about a concern.

6. Telemetry, evals, and your opt-out

During beta we collect product telemetry to find bugs and prioritize fixes: route latency, error rates, feature usage counts, and AI cost rollups. The telemetry never includes child names, child conversation content, postal codes, or any sensitive PI. A separate feature-flagged evaluation pipeline samples a small fraction of AI calls to test refusals, safety, and answer quality; parents can pause all eval sampling for their family at any time in Settings → Privacy & data. The opt-out is honored by the eval ingress guard before any data leaves the family scope.

7. Leaving the beta

You may leave the beta at any time by deleting your account in Settings → Privacy & data. Beta participation confers no obligation to migrate to a paid plan when the product reaches general availability — although we will offer beta families a welcome discount.
